Dear Jeff,
First I would mention that listening to the broadcast this evening was enjoyable, with a broad range of topics of interest covering a diverse audience. Coming from a background in choral music and modest experiences as a soloist in classical / spiritual fields, I would also compliment your music selections, especially toward the end of the program, as excellent and enjoyable.
I was pleased and in agreement with yours and Jay Weidner’s general commentaries regarding recent crises in Egypt and the Middle East, although I differ in some aspects, e.g. your willingness to relate the cult belief system of fundamentalist Islam to other religions as one with a “coarse side and a good side.” This euphemistic portrayal of a politically driven cult belief system of violence, forced compliance to barbaric Shari’ah law, of which all non-adherents are relegated to sub-human status, defectors and dissidents are condemned to death, with no options for introspection or adaptations to moderation, its 1,400 year history of deception, slavery, misogyny, murder, terrorism and subversive ideology with respect to all other forms of religious and non-religious lifestyles or devotions, seems a bit ironic, considering the article to which this memo is referenced and prominently displayed on your website. I have yet to hear anyone define the “desirable” aspects of this form of worship to its false god Allah.
Mohammedan Islam, since its inception and rise to prominence in the early 7th century, under formal mandates as posited by its false prophet Mohammed in the Trilogy of documents, i.e. Koran, Sira and Hadith, all of which comprise the ethos and doctrines of Islam, is responsible for excess of 270 million deaths and victimizations. This hardly compares to any other religion in the history of civilization. I am a bit disappointed in the level of knowledge you seem to possess to assert with such certainty your analysis and definition of this so-called “religion of peace” as it is frequently called. Nothing could be further from the truth. On this point, Weidner is correct.
Relative to referenced, as a Bible believer and student of 50 years, although not a theologian or Biblical scholar, the subjects covered in the article are ones which pique my passion. Since this article is given prominent display on the website, it deserves additional attention and clarification for which I would offer the following challenges to its validity and accuracy. When viewed by any serious student of the Bible, the article surprisingly indicates a level of childish naïveté and shallowness. The insulting coarseness and salient malice to suggest the Scofield Study System is a contrived, perverse adaptation of the Holy Bible text is fallacious and laughable.
References made to a "tool of Zionism" are quite appalling as anyone who embraces classic Biblical Zionism, e.g. Jews or Christians, is fully aware that no observant members of the Jewish faith or ethnic background, whether religious or secular, views anything in the Scofield commentaries as having credibility or relevance because of their total rejection of Christ as the incarnate Son of God, having come in the flesh, the only means of salvation and propitiation for sins, and through his substitutionary death, burial and resurrection, the justification for all of mankind.
Secondly, the article alleges Dr. C. I. Scofield’s references, footnotes and commentary added to the historic Biblical texts, is a “powerful tool” with which to subvert Christian religion into Zionism and an illegal Israel. The alleged motive and purpose is purported to be indoctrination, which was forced upon Bible colleges (seminaries), Christian ministers and pulpits of the 20th Century. These points are erroneous, baseless, and rife with malice of forethought. I would just note that dating back to a former era, circa 1599 A.D. when the Geneva Bible was written, many of the same doctrines projected in the Scofield writings were addressed and expounded upon in the commentary of that day in even greater detail, a clear indication that Scofield was in no way responsible for its initial creation or introduction of the “rapture” doctrine into theology. It’s been around longer than 1909 to date, and rightfully so.
The reference to Christ’s pre-millennial return to the earth, for which the term “rapture” derives legitimate Scriptural basis, is mentioned once in annotations, footnotes and references of the Scofield Study Bible. Very little commentary on this doctrine is made except to point the reader to admonitions made by apostles of Christ to carefully examine prophetic references and teachings for proper understanding, grounding in proper handling of truth and sound doctrine.
1 Timothy 6:20 “Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21which some have professed and in so doing have wandered from the faith.”
Commentary: Truth cannot contradict the Bible, since God, who knows all things, kept the writers of the Bible from error. If theories that rest upon mere speculation or insufficient evidence are presented as fact, in any area of knowledge, e.g. in religion, philosophy, science, etc., they deserve the description that the apostle gives here: “what is falsely called knowledge,” from which they are to “turn away.”
Succinctly, the premise and issues addressed in the referenced article indicates a gross ignorance on all points. The display of such libelous garbage is beneath you, and certainly out of character. My sincere hope is that the above information is helpful and enlightening.
